Minimum wage in Egypt 2026: 7,000 private sector, 8,000 government
The private sector minimum wage is EGP 7,000 a month, from 1 March 2025. State workers have a minimum income of EGP 8,000 from 1 July 2026. On EGP 7,000 you take home about EGP 6,103.50.

Those are the latest official figures we could open on 2 November 2026. Reports in May 2026 said 8,000 applied to the private sector too, but the official text says it's for state workers. The private figure stays 7,000 unless the National Wages Council decides otherwise, and the last council decision we could open is 7,000. Check before you rely on it, in case a newer decision has come out.
| Who | Minimum | From | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private sector workers | EGP 7,000 a month | 1 March 2025 | National Wages Council |
| Part-time workers, private sector | EGP 28 net an hour | Decision of 9 February 2025 | National Wages Council |
| Yearly raise, private sector | At least 3% of your insurance wage, and at least EGP 250 a month | Decision of 9 February 2025 | National Wages Council |
| State workers | EGP 8,000 a month, minimum income | 1 July 2026 | Finance minister, through the State Information Service |
We looked for a newer council decision for the private sector and found none we could open. That doesn't prove there isn't one. We give no US dollar figure, because we opened no official exchange rate.
What do I take home on the minimum wage?
About EGP 6,103.50 a month. Social insurance at 11% is EGP 770. Your year's pay of EGP 84,000, less EGP 9,240 of insurance and the EGP 20,000 personal exemption, leaves EGP 54,760. The first EGP 40,000 is free, and the other 14,760 at 10% is EGP 1,476 a year, or EGP 123 a month. The Martyrs fund takes EGP 3.50.
The ministry's release ties the 7,000 to the Labour Law's definition of wage. That release came out under the old law. Law 14 of 2025 also defines wage as more than basic pay: it counts commission, allowances and grants too (Article 1). So if your basic pay is under 7,000, ask your employer which other parts they count. Your payslip should show them.
What about part-time work?
The same council decision set a part-time minimum for the first time, at no less than EGP 28 net an hour. That's net, so it's what should reach you. An 8 hour day at that rate is EGP 224.
What changed for state workers in July 2026?
The finance minister announced that the minimum income for state workers rises to EGP 8,000 from 1 July 2026. The same package gives a 12% periodic raise to civil service staff, a 15% special raise to other state workers, EGP 750 a month more incentive for everyone, a further EGP 750 for medical staff, and 25% more on night shift rates.
We don't work out a state worker's take-home, because a state payslip has other items. On the private sector sum, EGP 8,000 would leave EGP 6,860.50, so use that only as a rough guide.
How has the private minimum moved?
The ministry gives the steps: EGP 2,400 in January 2022, 2,700 in January 2023, 3,000 in July 2023, 3,500 in January 2024, 6,000 in May 2024 and 7,000 from March 2025.
Who sets it, and who's covered?
The National Wages Council sets the minimum for all sectors (Law 14 of 2025, Article 102), and firms must apply its decisions (Article 104). Article 105 tells the ministry's inspectors to check. Pay can't go below the minimum under Article 108.
The Labour Law doesn't cover state bodies, which have their own rules, or domestic workers. So a domestic worker isn't protected by this law's minimum. The issuing articles say so.
What can I do if I'm paid less?
Check your payslip first, and work out what all the parts add up to. Then ask your employer in writing, and keep a copy. If it isn't fixed, go to the labour office that covers your workplace, or use the government complaints portal that the Ministry of Labour links on its home page. We list no hotline number, because we couldn't confirm one on an official page.
Don't sign a paper that says you've given up pay you're owed. Article 6 says such a waiver is void if signed during the job or within 3 months after it ends.
